If you think that I am  just telling you what to do - think again - I have been in your place - 110kg of fried chips and sugary drinks. Everything that has been built into these program has been a personal journey of what I have undertaken myself and yes I did lose 19kg (42 pounds) in 10 weeks. Once I was using a low-GI diet, I was losing 2-4 kilograms (4.5-9 pound a week) and no I wasn’t starving, just training my body to use my own body fat as an energy source - I had never felt so alive.

Firstly, let’s look at what is considered overweight - the rough measure is Body Mass Index (BMI) and is calculated using your weight and your height. A BMI above 25 is considered overweight but is not the only factor in determining whether you are overweight or not. Right now in Australia, over 65% of Australians have a BMI greater than 25.

I have a more powerful way of looking at weight loss - rather than look at how “bad” you are right now, let’s look at the goal weight for your height to have a BMI of 25 and thus a weight that reflects better health and wellbeing and you less likely to suffer from the diseases and health issues caused by being overweight. Once you know the goal weight, you can calculate the percentage of weight loss required from your current weight to reach your goal

This evidence-based program, combines doctor-prescribed weight loss medication, appropriate diet tailored to your preferences and allergies, an appropriate exercise regime, tailored coaching sessions with medical staff and coaches and access to a phone app that provides you with everything to support you on your health journey - dietary plans, recipes, exercises, and much, much more.

What is in the Valita Weight-Loss Program?

Once we have collected your health and weight-loss history, our nurses and doctors will collect your current status and answer any key questions you have about the Valita weight-loss program and listen to your motivations for weight loss. We will also obtain pathology to ensure we provide the most suitable medication.

Our doctors will then work with you on the best treatment options, the best medications for your condition, the best dietary intervention and identify any future referrals if necessary.

Our dietician will commence your dietary plan and push the plan to your app. Once your pathology has been received, your doctor will commence weight loss medications if appropriate.

Every fortnight your doctor will check on dietary compliance and adjust weight loss medication if necessary. They are also there to motivate you in your goals and troubleshoot any dietary issues.

Every six weeks our dietician will review your diet, ensuring that it is enjoyable, nutritionally complete and suitable to your weight loss goals and adjust your diet accordingly.

At the end of the 12 weeks our dietician will change your dietary plan if further weight loss is needed or develop a maintenance plan for you if your goal weight has been achieved.

We are with you every step of the way, making sure that everything is there to have you reach your desired weight-loss goal.

Is the The Nudge For You?

The Nudge is for those people, who would just like to lose a few pounds or kilograms and need the “nudge” of a structured peer and coach support program, to eat and exercise right.

The Nudge is short-term pain with maximum gain with the ability to lose five pound or two kilograms every week until you reach your desired goal. You know you could do this yourself but you know you always do better when you are doing this with other like-minded people and when you have a coach to keep you on track.

You will lose this weight through a low-GI diet carefully crafted to minimise insulin spikes and ensure maximum fat conversion.

Each week you will join an online coaching session with other “Nudgers”, and our coaches for an inspiring session designed to support you in reaching and maintaining your goals.

Is the Surgical Response Preparation For You?

This program is only for those few people who even after losing 15-25% of their current weight would still be in a position where their new weight would still have serious consequences to their ongoing wellbeing and quality of life.

There are various surgical options to choose from when considering bariatric surgery. In order to qualify for surgery, individuals must have a BMI of 40 or greater, or a BMI more than 35 and an existing weight-related co-severity, such as diabetes or hypertension. Your BMI can be roughly calculated by taking your weight in kilograms divided by (height in metres) squared. A BMI above 25 is considered overweight but is very dependent on body type.

In this very small number of cases, our medical staff through the Valita program would counsel you on the bariatric surgical procedures available, their limitations, advantages and consequences and recommend the most suitable method for your condition and lifestyle. Our staff would then provide a referral to your preferred bariatric surgeon for the procedure.

Post-surgery, the Valita app will provide you with meal plans and recipes suitable for your now restricted food intake.

Please note that some states and territories also require additional assessment, and participation in further counselling before surgery as some bariatric surgical procedures are irreversible.
